ACHES AND PAINS.

Never been worried about much untill started the speedier running. Had a couple of niggles. At the minute it is either my inner calf or the soleous? Either way can't seem to stretch it out but I guess it would help if i stretched as routine rather than just when I delevop these things??? Just don't want to risk injury. I think it is just down to the different style of running and monitor it.

Anyhow I have now ditched the mp3 player on speed runs and races and just keeping it for long runs or jogs.

I believe what Norman Marshall from the club said " those things prevent you from concentrating and you think your running faster than what you are"

"Pain is only temporary,
Pride is forever,
Pain passes with time and Time passes,
therefore Pain is just a strain on the Brain without Refrain,
and that's why Cross Country runners are Insane."

So my plan didn't go as well as I thought- 2hours 4mins-!

For a start I don't think the glycogen depletion diet worked much although at times I did feel powerful when I looked at  my split times they were rubbish. I think the only reason it worked for my dad was because it was actually his training.

Whilst i'd done more training for this it was mostly long runs at normal min mile pace whereas I need to get used to running fast. This will come in time with the Wed club speed intervals and now introducing the Fri speed sessions. Also went to fast and got caught up in anxiety type thinking instead of enjoying it- this loses energy me thinks.

When I finished the race and also in the last few miles I had severe stomach pain. Initially I thought it was a sick feeling but the shooting pains lasted till I got home and I realised what it was.

I stupidly ate quite a few jelly beans. !!HAHA! A tip some people suggest. Ive only done this twice in training runs. They were normal sweet jelly beans and I reckon rather than giving me energy they gave me indigestion so I don't think this tips for me?? My mate had some on a run with me and he said the same thing.

Also my mp3 was a hindrance- bored of the songs on it now even though I put loads of new ones because if they're not to my 'groove' (as Rick says) then I end up forwarding it so thinking of concerting to the non mp3 gang and just focusing on breathing/running.

When I finished in 2.04 feeling ill I asked myself "why am I doing this?"........ I started to think negatively about ever improving to the standard I want..... but then I semi-recovered and want to learn from it and better myself through training, training and more training. Will aim for more 5k and 10ks me thinks.

The course overall was tough because it was 2pm in June but the best bit was the sponges and showers around the course- that was a new experience for me and of couse my gorgeous 7 year old daughter who did the 2 mile fun run and got her first medal in her cute adidas running trainers.

GYLCOGEN DEPLETION DIET TEST.

My dad said he used to do this and it worked so last year I thought id give it a go but it didn't work because I think I ate too many carbs. I thought reducing complex carbs would be enough...I didn't eat potatoe, bread , pasta or rice but still had some fruit and various other things like sauces. Anyhow this time I went all out and literally had a minimal amount of carbs for 4 days and have enjoyed overloading or at least eating carbs in the last couple of days. My last day of no carbs I did a couple of miles on treadmill and I felt really weak so I think the gycogen definately depeleted properly this time.

We shall see if it helps on Sunday...........

Positive Mental Attitude

In my line of work I use a little saying- If you fail to plan then you plan to fail.

I have done more training and have more exerience for this race than any other race I have done.
I will have extra energy stores due to the glucogen.
In training I have been doing 9min mile as a warm up pace but this was my last race pace so maybe I could push it to avergae 8.39mile giving me around the 1hr 50 mark? Thats the plan but to be honest i'd be made up with under 2 hours for now as it all depends on the day!!
Weather conditions are looking in my favour.
Just enjoy it and not get nervous or go to fast as thats when I run better.

2nd Race (First Half)

2nd Race- First Half

The 2nd race I decided to do was the first half marathon available which was the Garstang Half Marathon 2oth Sep '09. http://www.garstangrc.co.uk/HalfMarathon/HMindex.html .Day or 2 before race day I felt a cold coming on. Dad said "oh you'l be fine i've ran loads with a cold its nothing" Dad drove me there and then said "What the hell have you enterred into here.?"

Dehydrated and ill- my muscles began to spasm- around mile 10 was the biggest hill I ever ran up and then threw up when I got to the top. Turns out the cold was more of a throat infection.... Anyhow, walked the last couple of miles throwing up a long the way and then threw up all the way back from Preston and climbed into bed.I Completed it in an embarrassing 2 hour 35 ( I had erased that out of my memory) 179th out of 184 runners and all I got this time was a green water bottle!!. Enough to put anyone off running......but not me......

I got back on the boring tready- built up to 2 hours once.- It was good for mental strength but I couldn't and wouldn't do it now.

Its only The Beginning

It was about 4 years a go now when I did my first run since 'substance misuse years'! (Before those I had attempted the 1500 in school whilst being a smoker and running was just a chore.).

The first run was on a treadmil at the YMCA gym( by chance as we were too scared to go in the circuit training) and it lasted 5 mins. I was still smoking around this time but determined to keep beating myself ,got up to 20 minutes and it was then when I realised how much of a great runner my dad was.

I decided to enter my first race in May '09. raising £235.50 for Marie Curie It was the Waterloo 15k. http://www.runwaterloo.co.uk/ I was so nervous, my dad came with me and we were late rushing to the start. Wow what a buzz!

There were two Amanda Bradburys in that race! She came 203rd in 73.17. I came 369th in 85.27 (9.14min miles). My first ever medal!!
